How I save money on makeup products
I am the first to admit that I love makeup! I think it is a beautiful way of expressing yourself, and I downright think it's art. I mean seeing a girl with a perfect winged liner, perfectly blended eye shadow and long lashes can make any girl jealous!
On the other hand, I am also the first to admit that I can't afford my obsession. Yes, the new Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette is gorgeous! It also has a pretty fair price, but pretty fair price is not something I can spend money on! I need cheap!.... or do I??
Spending just a little extra 'cashish' on some good products that will last you a long time is actually an investment (16 year old me trying to convince my parents).
For example, if you have a really nice eye shadow palette with a nice shade of matte brown you can easily use it to fill in your eye brows, or if you're not a brown shade you can easily use any color and shade as long as it's matte (unless you want pink glittery eye brows, which might be fun, or a silver shimmer shimmer), if you need them to be a little more refined and 'on fleek' you can easily use a brown eyeliner to line your brows. And to get a cheap spoolie, all you have to do is wash of an old mascara wond (make sure you wash it and clean it good, don't be afraid of the soap!) it works great to get all the excess product out.
Why spend money on a concealer if you can just spend a few more bucks on a full-coverage foundation? You can easily use it as a concealer as well! Any foundation could really do the job, me on a normal day I don't use concealer, I just go over my eyelids and under eyes with my foundation, works just fine!
Then there's the setting powder, it can be expensive, especially if you want a good one that keeps your makeup intact and doesn't flash back. What do I use? Johnson's Baby Powder, yes. I remember seeing it in a YouTube video and thought to myself 'hhm, worth a shot', I tried it, did the flash test, it passed = I'm still using it. And instead of carrying a baby powder around with me, I cleaned out a small metal candy box (or can, whatever) and I keep some in it to easily fit it in my makeup bag.
Another great tip to save money on setting powder: don't bake, if you want to do it of course it's up to you, but, you're wasting a lot of product! What I usually do is just lightly dip my brush in the powder (in my candy jar, fancy fancy), tap off the excess and then just go over my under eyes, nose, chin, around mouth and smile lines and my forehead. This gives the face a nice light, then you can use a compact powder in a deeper color (your matching color of course) to go over the outside of your face and set your contour if you are doing that.
Ok, these were my tips, I hope you at least got a good laugh out of the GIF (I know I did), or maybe you actually learned something. These are all my way of doing my makeup, I use a ashy-brown matte color for my eye brows and baby powder, I also use a mix of light pink and orange eye shadow from an old palette for blush... yes... I am that low. But hey, a girl gotta do what a girl gotta do to look pretty, even when she doesn't have that much money.
Now, my dear friends, I will end this with a beautiful and inspirational quote from Audrey Hepburn; 'On a bad day, there's always lipstick'.
